During drought conditions,
---be sure to water your garden one inch per week in a deep, slow watering  so roots grow deep and strengthen against stress & heat.
---Be sure your mulch is 2-3" deep to keep soil temps down but allows water to penetrate to the soil.
---Watch for pests during dry periods that stress plants and increase pest susceptibility.
---Be careful to water in the early morning if at all possible and before the temperatures reach 90 degrees.
---Seed pod production will be lower in dry, hot conditions.
---Don't dig, divide clumps or cut foliage till October's cooler nights.
